In order to address the high-priority challenges society and industry face in Cyber Security, WASP is now investing heavily in multidisciplinary research projects and recruitments. A total of 200 million SEK will be invested in research projects and recruitment of prominent international researchers.
The spotlight has pointed to the field of Cyber Security. Thanks to the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, WASP now has the possibility to mark 200 million SEK for strategic research and recruitments in Cyber Security. Eight new faculty with a focus on Cyber Security will be recruited. The initiative addresses the growing societal and industrial demand for improved Cyber Security and tackles the future challenges within the field.
– The distance between academia, industry and the public sector is incredibly short in Cyber Security and the need to be at the forefront is enormous. By investing in the best researchers in WASP’s fields, we will be able to attack some of the urgent and difficult questions in the field, says Anders Ynnerman, WASP’s Program Director.
Attractive recruitment packages
WASP will recruit prominent international researchers in Cyber Security. The recruitment will consist of six new positions, from assistant professor to professor level. They will be offered attractive recruitment packages with the possibility to hire two PhD students and two Postdocs. In addition, two Wallenberg chairs will be recruited, focusing on Cyber Security.
NESTs in Cyber Security
The research project lies within the frames of the multidisciplinary research- and network environment NEST, standing for Novelty, Excellence, Synergy and Teams. NESTs’ goal is to foster society and make Sweden more competitive. Addressing specific strategic high-priority research challenges within WASPs focus areas AI, autonomous systems and software, it is important that the project’s main topic Cyber Security touches upon one or more of WASP’s focus areas.
To be able to achieve the projects’ scope and aim of international impact and visibility, and contribution to Swedish society and industry, the project needs gathered competence of multidisciplinary teams of investigators.
Given the multidisciplinary nature of a NEST, it can be an advantage to have several sites involved, as well as actively involvement from industry.
WASP accepts applications from all the five partner universities as well as the Affiliated Groups of Excellence.
Application deadline is June 30, 2023. Decision to applicants will be provided on October 27, 2023.
